JULY 2010

Hi, everyone!

After a short vacation, I am working furiously to prepare for my next two shows. We leave on Sunday and are driving to Long Beach, California, for the International Quilt Festival. This will be my first time as a vendor at this particular show. I've done the shows in Houston and Chicago so thought it was time to try Long Beach. If you come to the show, please stop buy booth 1422 and say hello.

Right after I return home from California, I ship product to Atlanta, Georgia, for the American Sewing Guild National Conference being held August 5-8. There are over 800 women signed up and most of my classes are sold out. I hope to see some of you there. I'm teaching a class called "Surface Design: Create One of-a-Kind Fabrics". I've been playing with new techniques and have had fun foiling on leather and other fabrics.

The details for next year's New York City tours have been confirmed. I will be leading two groups next year. The first trip is April 10-16, 2011 for the American Sewing Expo. The second is June 5-11, 2001 for the American Sewing Guild. Right now, details are available only for the April tour. The information for the June tour will be posted within the next two weeks. We will be doing some old favorites plus some new adventures. See the video we shot on our April 2010 visit and take a look at the new Sew Many Options Tours website and photo album.

This month, we have our Fold-Over Elastic on sale 25% off. It makes a quick neck finish on t-shirts, armholes and many other items. Click here to see how to apply the elastic.

Happy sewing!

JULY TRAVEL TIPS

The time for summer vacations has arrived. Here are some timely tips to keep you safe and happy on your travels.

1.  If you are traveling internationally, take along a large manila envelope for your receipts. On the front of the envelope list what you bought, how much you paid (in local currency) and the conversion to US dollars. When you depart, you have everything together for completing custom forms. When officials see you have things well organized, they usually let you proceed without a lot of questions.
2.  Keep only a small amount of cash in your purse. Consider carrying your car keys and other valuables in hidden pockets.
3.  If you check in for a flight and it is delayed or cancelled for any reason other than weather, ask the agent to protect you under Rule 240. This rule guarantees you a seat on the next available flight to your destination on any carrier. Be aware. This rule does not apply with on Jet Blue, Southwest or Frontier airlines, but most major airlines offer some version of this rule.
4.  If you are driving, make sure to always have water and umbrellas, in case of a breakdown. Umbrellas can provide protection from the sun as well as the rain.
5.  Don't send your carry-on through the detector until you know you will be the next to walk through. Keep an eye on the carry-on at all times. If you are stopped while going through the detector, ask that your scanned carry-on be returned to you.
6.  If traveling with children, be sure to have snacks, water or juice boxes, and games or a dvd player to entertain them.
